Official launch - Celebration of EUPHORIA from the Burren Brewery

27 October 2018, 6pm

On the Saturday of the October bank holiday, a new beer will officially be launched in the Burren Storehouse. It is called EUPHORIA, and well-known beerista Sorcha Hamilton from the Irish Times as well as wine and food critic Leslie Williams from the Irish Examiner will be giving talks.

Euphoria is a unique beer made without the help of hops. Master brewer Peter Curtin went out into the Burren, and collected wild yeast from the air which was then magically combined with six different herbs gathered by herbalist Lisa Guinan. "The Happy Beer" got its name from the mildly euphoric effect it can have on those who drink it.

The launch will celebrate the wonderful combination of Burren's nature, its wild components and man's ingenuity in using those ingredients to turn them into something else.

Burren Storehouse Revolution in ColourSpecial screening of
Revolution in Colour

30th March 2018 at 8pm

Narrated by Allen Leech, this unique documentary tells the story of the Irish Easter Rising, why it happened and how it happened. With incredible newly-colourised original footage, this film shows the Irish revolution as people at the time saw it – in colour.

The reason for colouring the old film clips was simply to bring the events closer to today's audience. Black and white films always seem to date back so far in history that it is sometimes difficult to relate to them.

Have a look at the trailer and get hooked! Click here to watch the trailer

Admission: €5
Food will be served until 8pm

First Annual Irish Old Time Appalachian Music Gathering in Burren StorehouseThe First Annual Irish Old Time Appalachian Music Gathering

16 to 18 February 2018

We are very excited to announce the First Irish Old Time Gathering convening on 16-18 February 2018, with the intention of bringing together Appalachian music enthusiasts from across Ireland, and also welcoming experienced old-time musicians from the US and UK.

Just as in the Appalachian music tradition in the US, this will be a gathering of musicians rather than a festival with paid performers. The core activity will be jam sessions, with musicians from across the country meeting up to play and swap tunes.

In addition, we expect to have a number of visiting musicians from the US and UK, veterans of the Old Time scene, able to share their experience. One of our organizers, Bob Denton, who grew up in the Blue Ridge Mountains playing traditional musc, won first place in the banjo competition at the National Old Time Fiddle Contest and Festival in Weiser, Idaho in 2016. He has also won ribbons at the Galax and Union Grove fiddlers conventions.

There will be workshops available for those who wish to brush up their fiddle and banjo repertoire, or learn some dance steps. On Saturday evening there will be a barn dance with a caller.

As is the customs with these festivals, there is no programme set in stone - we go with the flow and preferences of the participants.  We  are  also  allowing  for  some  folks  who  may  just  want  to  play  music, and others that may also want to brush up their skills and repertoire.

As a rough outline, this is what we have in mind:

Friday evening (7pm to midnight)
Warm-up jam sessions. Join as you arrive, meet up with friends or make new ones.

Saturday (up to 6pm)
Jams  can  start  up  in  a  number  of  locations  in  and  around  the  Roadside  Tavern,  depending  on  numbers and preferences.

Workshops   will   be   offered   on   fiddle   and   banjo.   (We   may   add   workshops   on   mandolin   and   guitar accompaniment if there is demand.) A small charge will be made for attending these.

Saturday Evening
in Burren  Storehouse,  next  to  the  Roadside  Tavern. Free  to registered  participants.

•Dan Levenson – talk and performance (19.00) by this renowned master of OT music

8pm to 10pm
• Barn Dance
• Jam sessions to follow

Sunday morning 10.30am to 1pm
• Jam sessions
• We may have a dance workshop, depending on demand

Sunday afternoon
More sessions!

The main venues will be the Roadside Tavern and the adjoining Burren Storehouse, located just off the main street in Lisdoonvarna.

The cost for the weekend is just €15 euros per participant, or €10 for those registering by 15 January 2018. The cost of workshops to be announced. Non-participants may attend the barn-dance and listen to jam sessions for €10 on Saturday night (from 8pm).

Registration, audio examples and more info can be found on the Irish Old time website and on Facebook.

Ruaile Buaile at Burren Storehouse TG4Ruaile Buaile

THURSDAY 15 June 2017

with added bonuses of TG4 filming
and the auction of a Rugby jersey signed
by the 2017 Lions Team!

The Ruaile Buaile boys are taking their influence from their Celtic rock and trad roots, Niall, Jack, Arthur, and Shane have decided to put their own unique stamp on one of the most well-known songs ever to top the Irish charts, 'Maniac 2000'! And they've done it in style.

Originally a number one for Mark McCabe in the first year of the noughties, the midlands men have transformed it into a musical lifeforce for a new generation, with a banjo-driven intensity which also highlights the band's own high-energy spirit, as well as the obvious sense of enjoyment they take from being in each other's company and entertaining fans.  They also appeared on the Ray d'Arcy Show.

Listen to them here!

There will be an auction at the gig - proceeds going to charity!

This jersey signed by the members of 2017 Lions rugby team will be auctioned off to the highest bidder on the night of the Ruaile Buaile gig. The proceeds go to MS Ireland. Paul and Karen McGovern are on an MS Ireland fundraising walk from Mizen Head to Malin Head which will take them seven weeks. They will be staying in Lisdoonvarna that night and attend the gig and the auction. Paul is suffering from progressive MS himself - and this walk is a great commitment and achievement for both of them so we want to support them in any which way possible, and hopefully you, too!

TG4 will film at this gig, so if you want to be on TV and part of an exciting event, you better turn up!

Charity Dinner in aid of local Alzheimer Charity

On Thursday, 6th October 2016, the Burren Storehouse in conjunction with the Burren Smokehouse will be hosting a dinner dubbed #SightForHungryEyes, the net income of which will go to the Clare branch of the Alzheimer Society of Ireland. Mark this day in your diary as it will be not only a culinary event. Chef and owner of La Giacoma, Cristina Giacomelli, and Luciano Tona will prepare what they call a ‘Splash dish’, i.e. a dish that symbolises the spirit of the project, generally a starter using local produce, while the local chef - our onw Viv Kelly from Kieran's Kitchen - decides on the rest of the menu. For this dinner, we can expect a delicious and surprising Irish-Italian menu.

During the evening Manuela Spinelli, who brought the project to Ireland, and Luciano will introduce the project, and guests will have the opportunity to purchase a pair of glasses, specifically designed by La Giacoma.

The net income from the sale of the glasses will be donated to the Clare branch of the Alzheimer Society. More information as to how this combination of food and glasses came about can be found on the Eventbrite page.

The dinner is a ticketed event in the Burren Storehouse, the fabulous and welcoming new venue next to the Roadside Tavern in Lisdoonvarna, Co. Clare. The price is €60 per per person including the wine, and can be booked on Eventbrite.
